Controversy and talk about referees in Portugal is about as common as the sun rising every day.
As a result of recent tensions, the President of the Referee Council of the Portuguese Football Federation will be setting up meetings shortly with each of the Liga NOS and 2Liga clubs to listen and talk about the current climate that is growing about referees.
José Fontelas Gomes is being proactive in trying to set up meetings with the clubs as the second half of the domestic schedule begins to take shape.
The goal is to not only listen but also provide an environment where referees can freely work and make decisions without additional pressure.
The referee controversy has grown in the past week after Saturday’s Classico and does not appear to be subsiding anytime soon.
