Vitoria Setubal Cuts Relations with Sporting CP, Sporting Say They Were Insulted in the Tribune, Bruno Fernandes Brace Clinches Win

The match may be over, but the issues continue between Vitoria Setubal and Sporting.

Vitoria Setubal President Vítor Hugo Valente announced they will cut all ties with Sporting, after they could not get their match postponed due to the large number of players hospitalized with the flu. he had nothing but praise for his players.

“I want to make a very big public thanks to our players, who were forced to go to the game in unfortunate conditions: muscle aches, breathing difficulties. Still, because Vitoria never misses a match, the players still offered to come to defend this badge. They were for us heroes. This club will never forget them,” said Valente.

Sporting quickly responded with a public statement upon hearing the cutting of ties and had their own accusation.

“Sporting CP hereby regrets the atmosphere created by the President of Vitória Futebol Club (Setubal) as soon President Frederico Varandas entered the tribune. The atmosphere of constant provocation, insults, and the insults that were addressed to the members of the governing body of Sporting CP for 90 minutes are inadmissible. Sporting CP will not move towards breaking institutional relations with Vitória Futebol Clube because of respect for their Club and its History.”

Sporting won the match 3-1 behind a brace from Bruno Fernandes to stay in fourth place.
