The Taça de Portugal draw for the quarterfinal round and two leg semifinal took place on Monday afternoon at FPF’s Football City.
Benfica received the tougher path to the final in Jamor being drawn up against Rio Ave at home in the QF with the winner advancing to play either Famalicão or FC Paços de Ferreira in the semifinals in a Liga NOS filled part of the bracket.
FC Porto has, on paper, the easier path playing 2Liga Varzim in the QF with the winner getting either 3Liga Canelas or 2Liga Académico Viseu in the semifinal.
Canelas 2010 has been the Cinderalla team thus far being the only lower league team left in the competition.
The club, which is based in the Porto region, was represented at Monday’s draw at Football City by Fernando Madureira, a striker on the team and the leader of the FC Porto supporters group Superdragões.
“It was not the draw we wanted, but we will have to play hard so that, in the seventh round (semifinals), we can achieve a child’s dream, especially of mine, but also of the whole Canelas squad, which is to play in the Estádio do Dragão,” said Madureira. “We hope to be able to overcome Académico Viseu, we know the difficulties we are going to face, they are a division above us, but we will fight with all our efforts to try to later play FC Porto. We want to keep this childhood dream alive.”
