Jorge Jesus Wins First Major International Title, His Legendary Status Grows In Brazil

Flamengo’s Jorge Jesus became the first Portuguese manager to win the Copa Libertadores.

Two goals in three minutes from Gabigol saw Flamengo grab a late a 2-1 win over defending champions River Plate.

“It’s the most important title of my career,” said Jesus. “The Copa Libertadores is to South America for what the Champions League is to Europe.”

“When I decided to come to Flamengo, many people didn’t agree with me, including my friends and my agent.”

“But I made my own decision to come without being influenced by others. If we win the Club World Cup, it will be the best year of my career.”

Jesus on Sunday can also win his first Brazilian title if Palmeiras drop points.
